We are in love...

...with color!  We may have reminded you of this love affair in "Everything Red."  In our quest, we recently discovered Austin, Texas, photographer Emily Blincoe. Given our eye for anything floral, her "Garden Collection" caught our attention. Blincoe's "Sugar Series" is also inspiring.  Ideas for candied prints are just jumping off the page.  But don't forget to eat your veggies!

color love

I love fresh cut flowers. I was needing a little pick-me-up
and I saw these at the grocery store.
How could I resist? Full of color and inspiration.

colors in the garden

Happy Monday! Seattle weather was amazing this weekend. The sun was warm and the breeze cool. Yesterday I spent some time walking around my neighbors yards taking photos of the beautiful flowers popping up. The flowers casted some great shadows!
I love these. They look so futuristic.
I think I may turn this into a pattern. The sharp shadows mixed with the blurry edges makes it very interesting.

changing of seasons: seeds and pods

I spent the weekend in the forest and the mountains!  A much needed break.  What is it about nature that is so calming?  It was a perfect time to investigate the turning of seasons.  Seeds and pods in tiny forms...most of the items photographed were less than a quarter of an inch big.

On Saturday we took the gondula to the top of Crystal Mountain, did a little hiking and had a picnic.  This was our view! Amazing!!

pretty in pink

Happy Monday!  The pink tree outside my front door is starting to bloom.  I love this tree.  I just wish the flowers stayed longer.

a study of leaves

The US Botanical Garden in DC has a beautiful orchid show going on right now.  Although I love orchids I find more inspiration in leaves and other flowers.  Many years ago I started a photo archive of leaves, buds, flower clusters and detail flower photos.  I constantly use them for reference when sketching.  The below photos I took at the Botanical Garden and are the most recent additions to the leaves archive.

I already started sketching ideas of leaves.
I love the round shape with the pinked edge.
The long bright green branches on this plant are so interesting.  If you click on the image it will enlarge in your window.  Notice how the leaves twist at the end.  So cool.

The red stalk of this plant is so beautiful. Nature is amazing isn't it?
I like how delicate and soft this plant looks.
Check out the red dotted stem of the leaf.
Nice leaf clusters.

flower journal: dahlias

I started taking flower photos many years ago. I think of it as my personal photographic flower journal. I take photos from all angles and I refer back to these when I am designing prints. I came across these and thought I would share. They were taken in Washington State many many years ago.

Interesting how the petals are coming out of petals. And the color is awesome!
