trend shopping LA: part 2

Came across a great home furnishing store in Santa Monica called Weego Home. I am a true fan of the Florence Broadhurst wallpaper and prints.
We also stopped by Paper Source. You just gotta feel good when being surrounded by all this pattern. The store looked great! Here is a peek.
The front window had two collections that were fantastic.

trend shopping in LA: part 1

I hit Santa Monica for a little trend shopping today. Found some great finds!

Cute home store with some great print!
Love these tea light holders. Their colors make me happy!
This picture doesn't do these blue and green glasses justice. I just love the soft colors and the display!
This bed looks great with all John Rob Shaw bedding.
I will always like Jonathan Adler. His patterns and mix of colors make me happy. And his packaging is fantastic!
Love the sea colors.

snow & sun

I left this on Friday morning....
this is not a black and white photo

And arrived here Friday afternoon. Ahhhh.
LA had been great so far! I have spent time with my best friend and have enjoyed the sun, saw dolphins swimming and and have been gathering great inspiration!

Sunday I went to CHA. I didn't really know what to expect but I gotta tell you....some exciting things came out of my visit. Met some great people and am really excited about some future projects. I will keep you posted.

I head back to Budapest on Thursday and I am so ready to focus, design and be back in my home. I miss having hours to draw, design and collaborate. I feel like 2011 is just starting for me and I have a really good feeling about it.

Graphic Artists Guild Handbook: Pricing and Ethical Guidelines

Did you hear? The 2010 Graphic Artists Guild Handbook: Pricing and Ethical Guidelines is out! Ok, so it has been out for a few months but I just got my copy and am so excited to tell you about it! This new edition has an updated and extensive surface design section.
And, guess who was a contributor? :)
Below is from the table of contents.
I get loads of emails from those of you interested in becoming independent surface designers. I would recommend you invest in this book - it is filled with all sorts of invaluable information including sample contracts, surface design prices and trade customs!

January 2011...what a month

I have been thinking about what to share on this blog for weeks now. This is my professional blog...with tid bits of my personal life intertwined. So, how much of my personal life should I share? How much do you really want to hear? I suppose I should accept that our personal lives have a direct affect on our professional ones...so, here it goes...

BIG Changes in my personal life.
Months ago my husband was presented with an exciting job opportunity. The job offer excited us with one exception...it would take him to another piece of the world for 3 months at a time. We talked and talked and talked...we went back and forth and in the end we decided he should take it. So, in the beginning of January he left for Dubai for training. And a few days ago he left for Afghanistan (Yes I said Afghanistan...), where he will be for the next year. The good news is, every 3 months he gets 3 weeks r&r so we will see each other soon. With Skype and email it makes the distance tolerable. Although I do miss having him around the house:(

me and my man in Transylvannia in October.
A busy business & a good distraction.
A few days after Steven left for training, I left for New York City. I went to Printsource and met with lots of clients (current and new). I saw old colleagues and friends, enjoyed dinners and long conversations with all of my favorite people. It was a fantastic trip albeit too short.

New York: this turned out blurry but I kinda like it.
From the Big Apple I headed to Ohio to visit family and friends. I have been here for about a week and have another week to go. I am juggling work, follow ups, and visits. Next Friday I am off to LA! I will head to the CHA (Craft and Hobby Association) trade show and meet up with my contact at Anthology Fabrics! I will even be able to see strikoffs of my next collection, Bonjour! Stay tuned!!!

Back to reality
After 4 weeks in the USA I will head back to Budapest where my blogging will become more regular and I will get back into my routine. I promise! I am loving the travel and visits but I am missing my hours to focus and design (not too mention working on this little laptop is killing me - I miss my iMac!). I have so many ideas that need to get down onto paper. I suspect February is going to be a jam packed creative month! So, lots of blog post coming soon.

If January was this crazy, what will February look like? I suspect the rest of the year is going to be just as hectic. How about you? Any words of advice on how to cope with your sweetie being gone? What is your prediction for 2011? Anyone want to meet for happy hour? :)
